This study analyzed iodine status in pregnant and non-pregnant women in Northern Norway. Median urinary iodine concentration (UIC) was below WHO recommended levels in both groups, with supplement users being the only group achieving adequate iodine status. Dairy and lean fish were key dietary sources, yet insufficient intake was common. Most non-pregnant women (84%) were not using iodine supplements. Poor knowledge about iodine was widespread, though it was not statistically associated with UIC. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted supplementation or fortification strategies to address iodine deficiency in women of reproductive age.
