This paper explores the motivations of forest-fringe communities in Ghana to convert forest lands for subsistence farming, despite conservation efforts. Through narrative policy analysis, the study reveals that food security and survival are paramount for these communities. It critiques top-down forest governance and recommends policies that center on job creation, food security, and inclusive development.
