This report examines the role of small-scale fisheries (SSF) in Uganda in supporting nutrition, livelihoods, and economic sustainability. Small-scale fisheries contribute over 81% of Uganda’s domestic fish supply, supporting approximately 3.2 million people directly and indirectly. The report highlights challenges including climate change, governance issues, and post-harvest losses, which undermine food security and trade. It stresses the need for policy interventions, equitable trade, and the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries. The document calls for enhanced governance, inclusive management, and climate-resilient practices to safeguard the future of small-scale fisheries in Uganda.
