This research article examines the relationship between adherence to the 2017 French dietary guidelines and mortality in a cohort of over 72,000 women from the E3N French prospective study. The findings show that higher adherence (measured via the sPNNS-GS2 score) is associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease mortality, and mortality from several cancers, including breast and lung cancer. However, for very high levels of adherence, the trend reverses for some cancer-related outcomes. The association held even after adjusting for dietary exposure to chemical contaminants. These results support the public health value of promoting national dietary guidelines to reduce mortality risks.
