A helpful review of Options for keeping the food system within environmental limits, a 2018 peer-reviewed paper by Springmann et al. It provides a snapshot of the methodology and findings of the paper, and sets out areas for further research that the paper did not cover. The bottom line is that we need to implement a range of interventions on both the supply and demand side of the agricultural food value chain if we have any hope of keeping the food system within sustainable environmental limits.

Innovation and public private engagement can help accelerate action in the three areas set out in the paper: improving agricultural technologies and resource management; reducing meat consumption (where/if appropriate); and reducing food loss and waste along the whole food value chain.
