This article by a non-profit called Concordia makes the simple argument that food insecurity and loss can only be addressed by increased collaboration across sectors. It’s an obvious point, yet but without understanding why food loss exists on such an extensive scale, it’s difficult to change.

While pointing to the scale and nature of the challenge - with a global loss the equivalent of the GDP of Australia - the article does heed some interesting initiatives. For example, BuffetGo App salvages excess food from catered events in New York and demonstrated the power of technology and partnership. The article cites Concordia’s own campaign to bring sectors together to collectively face sustainable food production. It highlights that since the challenge is technical, environmental, structural and behavioural, a composite skill set between sectors is the only solution.
