This 2019 Lancet Commission Report looks at systemic causes for the triple problems of obesity, undernutrition, and climate change. Together, obesity, undernutrition, and climate change constitute a global syndemic – a complex web of social, economic, and cultural factors that have a major impact on the planet’s health. This report provides a fresh way to conceptualise the role of public-private partnerships in context of these challenges. It provides nine broad recommendations and over 20 actions for governments, the food industry, consumers, and civil society. Importantly, it looks at the role of governments and public accountability mechanisms to ensure that the private sector develops responsible and health-promoting business models.
