Results of a day-long meeting between food industry scientists, food, nutrition, and health related scientific societies and various U.S. agencies to review published U.S. guidelines that govern cross sector collaboration on nutrition. The article presents guiding governance and operational principles and points of agreement on revision of these guidelines. The importance of flexible and transparent communication was highlighted as one of the principles, alongside the need for a third party convener. Especially useful for those doing business in the United States.
