Rethinking Nutrition Innovations: SUN Business Network launches pitch competition

The SUN Business Network seeks to challenge and support SMEs in Africa and Asia that have innovative and scalable solutions that can improve the availability of affordable nutritious foods, especially to vulnerable populations.

The 2019/2020 Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Pitch Competition, organised by the SUN Business Network, harnesses innovative solutions for improved nutrition by connecting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets with technical assistance and investment opportunities through a series of National SUN Pitch Competitions leading up to the Global SUN Pitch Competition.

Through the SUN Pitch Competition, the SUN Business Network aims to showcase a deal flow of nutrition related investments from SMEs that can catalyse innovation in local food systems and improve the affordability and accessibility of nutritious and safe foods for low income consumers across Africa and Asia. Nutrition is both a maker and a marker of sustainable development, and is directly embedded into 12 out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SUN UN Network, “Unpacking the Links between Nutrition and the SDGs”).

This year's theme is Rethinking Nutrition Innovations, and includes four categories: Food design; Post harvest loss reduction; Market connectivity; and Food safety.
