The second Global Summit on Food Fortification virtual series

The Second Global Summit on Food Fortification Virtual Series aims to build consensus around the most important actions that should be pursued for staple food fortification to meet its potential for reducing malnutrition worldwide. 

Monthly interactive #FutureFortified sessions will take place online beginning in January 2021 and culminating before the Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit in December. All online Summit events will be free and open to all.

Webinar summit series timeline 2021: Ingredients for the unfinished agenda 

• January 27: Reaching the Most Vulnerable with Fortified Foods - Consolidating gains in Salt Iodization, Edible Oil and Biofortified Crops. Moderated by Roger Thurow with Chef’s Manifesto, Harvest Plus, Hellen Keller International, Iodine Global Network, and UNICEF. 

• March 3: Transforming Food Systems and Investing in Nutrition for Growth - Staple Food Fortification and the Role of the Private Sector. With Ajinomoto, TechnoServe, the SUN Business Network, Access to Nutrition Foundation and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development
• April 7: Fortifying the Supply Chain - Premix Challenges and the COVID 19 Pandemic. Moderated by Saskia Osendarp, Executive Director of the Micronutrient Forum and featuring actors working to overcome these challenges from Stern Vitamin, BASF, Hexagon Nutrition, the GAIN Premix Facility and voices from Bangladesh and Mozambique.
• April 29: Thinking Regionally About Industrial Food Fortification. Moderated by Leonard Mizzi, Head of Unit, Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Fisheries, EC and featuring USAID, 2FAS, Kazakh Academy of Nutrition, WAHO, INCAP and more. 
• June 10:  Fortifying our Impact - Industrial Fortification and Biofortification as Complimentary Interventions to Fight Malnutrition. Featuring experts from International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Micronutrient Forum, Hospital for Sick Children and Ministry of National development Planning, Indonesia.
• June 30: Scaling Up Innovation for a Fortified Future – Part I - Fortification Quality Digitization. This webinar will be moderated by Andreas Blüthner, Director of Nutrition, the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation.
• July 28:  Rice Fortification - A Key Opportunity to Reach More People with Fortified Food.
• September 29: Tackling Malnutrition through the Food System - the Role of Industrial Fortification and Biofortification. 
• October: Financing the Fortification Unfinished Agenda - Looking Ahead to the Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit
• November: Scaling Up Innovation for a Fortified Future - Part II - New Business Models, coalition building & advocacy
   

The Second Global Summit on Food Fortification is part of a worldwide effort to invigorate interest, awareness, and investment in Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) and biofortification – two population-based interventions with enormous potential to contribute sustainably to reducing and preventing micronutrient deficiencies globally. This high-level event will provide a basis for new fortification commitments from governments, donors, and the private sector at the upcoming Nutrition for Growth Summit in Japan.
